Skiing

We went skiing last weekend, it was awesome. The weather was excellent on the Friday but it was very foggy and quite cold on the Saturday and Sunday. I was too tired to go out on the Sunday, I probably would have made more of an effort if the weather was fine.

Liz is getting much better at skiing, she's confidently linking snow-plow turns on very easy slopes.

Jeff is also doing well, his balance and style look very natural.

Meanwhile I had a private lesson to learn how to use the terrain parks. We used a few boxes but didn't try any rails or railing on the boxes since I couldn't get a helmet that fitted my GARGANTUAN head.

Instead I asked the instructor for some help with my style. I had noticed that my uphill ski tends to be unstable. By shifting my weight earlier in the turn, and not throwing my weight so much I can make slower more-parallel turns. Like most skiers, I should also concentrate on my balance and stance.

During my lesson I was approached by a representative of Disabled Wintersport Australia (DWA), because I was waring a safety vest that read "Blind Skier" since I had said I was vision impaired when I booked the lesson. He asked the instructor about my skiing ability, pleased with the reply he invited me to complete next year. I'm not sure at what, probably slalom, or at what level but it may be interesting and fun. We'll see what happens.

Competeing with DWA.

I haven't heard anything from DWA, and I doubt that anything might happen. Perhaps they say that to all the capable disabled skiers. It's not like I have the time for a second career anyway. Also, I'm too old to be an athlete.
